Location
The village of Rowsley sits astride the A6 between Bakewell and Matlock and a mile from the grand medieval manor of Haddon Hall owned by the Duke of Rutland.
Stanton Moor is in a fine position overlooking both the Derwent and Wye valleys. The moor contains at least 70 barrows as well as stone circles, ancient enclosures and standing stones and is of such interest to archaeologists that the whole area is now protected.
The best known monument is the Nine Ladies Stone Circle, which lies at the centre of the moor - a low circle of worn gritstone blocks in a lovely location.
Lunch
You'll be stopping off at the Red Lion Inn in Birchover for lunch. Back in 1680 it was originally a farmhouse but once gaining a liqueur license it has been a thriving public house for many years. With a roaring fire & oak beams you will instantly feel at home.
